Choices A  is incorrect because voting existed before the Enlightenment.
Choice B is incorrect because voting existed before the American Revolution.
Choice D is incorrect because voting existed before the Renaissance.

3. D
Dictatorships have strong leaders and the people have virtually no power.  Choice A is partly correct as dictatorships have strong leaders, but the leader is not held responsible to the will of the people.  Choice B is incorrect – dictatorships normally only have one political party. The answer is a good definition for a republic. Choice C is incorrect because in a dictatorship, virtually no power rests with the people.
